About Us

My name is Sherri Pennanen.

I am a certified hoof care specialist and United Horsemanship Hoof Groom

serving WNY and Southern Ontario.

I see dozens of horses' feet each day and I am ready to share my experiences with you together with my knowledge to help you understand why your horse may have one or more problems that can be fixed with the barefoot method of natural hoof care..

Better Be Barefoot - the business

The bulk of my business cnters around hoof care and trimming for horses.  I also tend to mules, donkeys, goats, even pot bellied pigs!  Regardless of species, my business is to trim naturally with balance for good function.  When correction is needed, I work toward that correction.  I will advise you on natural nutrition, herbal supplements and medicines, accupuncture and chiropractic benefis, and the importance of movement of the foot.  In short, I wil help you get your hose much closer to his natural state - that of prey and herd animal whle still benefitting from his domestication.  Your horse wil know that you are making him healthier.  You will see his stess levels go down and his spirit and energy increase.   Some people say that the biggest thing they notice after a course of natural care is that their horses play again.  They are more solid when we ask them to perform because they are feeling better.  And they trust us more.  Finally, we show we understand how they feel!

Who I am...

I have been around horses for 40 years.  Throughout those years, I have learned that many horses are chronically sore.  I'm now an exprienced natural trimmer and I have found that barefoot hoof care has helped not just a few - but ALL of my client's horses.  I m proud to say that I have saved more than a couple from being "put down" because the owners were ready to give up.

I have learned through dissection and study.  I have become educated on the functions and dynamics of the horse hoof.  I have learned that shoeing a horse is not only unnecessary, it is unhealthy!  I have worked with many a blacksmith who has informed me that his education did not include anything about th horse foot or how it works!  Blacksmiths only learn about shoes.  Once I explain the horsekeeping basics to them, they have a different point of view and some even vow never to shoe again.
